How Technology Has Changed the Workplace

There was once a time where employees all had shelves that served as their in-boxes, where filing systems were used to save important documents, when a blackberry smartphone was never heard of and there was once a mail person whose job was to collect and send mail and other work related documents around the office. Those times seem so far away because technology has completely changed the way offices are run.

When email was invented and became pretty widespread, many people considered it detrimental to the workplace because in some cases productivity went down. Employees were not only using email to email files and other documents that were work related, but they were emailing their friends and family, sending jokes, and just shooting the breeze with other employees over the internet.

However, email is no longer considered quite so bad. In fact, more people will respond to an email than a phone call. Email seems to have put the business back into business as people can respond quickly to a question without the unnecessary chit-chat that would come from a face to face interaction.

An invention that is making the lives of many workers easier is the invention of the video chatting. Before, people would have to travel to make presentations which cost companies time and money. Now, with real-time video chatting companies can make presentations from their office to companies in other states or around the world all without having to travel. This technology has also made the hiring phase of employment easier for many individuals who are looking to move to a new state because they can interview nearly face to face without having to travel.

You have probably heard the the term ‘multimedia art’ but the term can be applied to a variety of art and what is considered multimedia art can get a little confusing.

Basically, by definition, multimedia art will include more than one type of medium. Multimedia art is a pretty new and contemporary art because the mediums that are commonly used were only invented recently. Multimedia art will usually include a classic form of art like sculpture, painting, or any other form of visual art and combine it with another type of medium like music, video, or installation art.

Multimedia artwork is known for the way that it engages multiple senses. Unlike classic art that commonly only viewed, multimedia art can include things that stimulate the other senses from taste, to sound, to touch. Because multimedia can engage the senses it is a fascinating and intriguing way for artists to express themselves

Multimedia art may be a new form of artwork but many people think that this new form of artistic expression is not on the same level as classical artistic expression. However, there are certain traditional genres like opera and film that are multidisciplinary, even if they are not considered multimedia since they only involve sight and sound. Therefore, multimedia expression is not something to scoff at, it can be beautiful and engaging at the same time.

Artist who are involved in multimedia art are usually integrating types of media together that have previously not been combined to create art. Rather than simple dismiss this contemporary art, give it a try.
