Basically, by definition, multimedia art will include more than one type of medium. Multimedia art is a pretty new and contemporary art because the mediums that are commonly used were only invented recently. Multimedia art will usually include a classic form of art like sculpture, painting, or any other form of visual art and combine it with another type of medium like music, video, or installation art.

Multimedia artwork is known for the way that it engages multiple senses. Unlike classic art that commonly only viewed, multimedia art can include things that stimulate the other senses from taste, to sound, to touch. Because multimedia can engage the senses it is a fascinating and intriguing way for artists to express themselves

Multimedia art may be a new form of artwork but many people think that this new form of artistic expression is not on the same level as classical artistic expression. However, there are certain traditional genres like opera and film that are multidisciplinary, even if they are not considered multimedia since they only involve sight and sound. Therefore, multimedia expression is not something to scoff at, it can be beautiful and engaging at the same time.

Artist who are involved in multimedia art are usually integrating types of media together that have previously not been combined to create art. Rather than simple dismiss this contemporary art, give it a try.
