Music and media are so ingrained into the lives of children today that it seems we interact more with younger generations through their Facebook page than we do through actual conversation. However, the world of the internet and the multimedia art that the internet has is a new world to parents who can barely keep up with their children’s ability to download music and videos.

If your child is interested in downloading music or videos from sites the best thing that you can do is see what your child is wanting to download. Remember that music has beenĀ form of self expression for a long time and children might be able to express what they are going through better with music than they could just talking with you.

If you are concerned about what your child may get into on the internet set rules for the sites that they can download from. You can also have them ask you if it is alright to download a certain song that way you know exactly what they are listening to. If you are unfamiliar with the song or are concerned about the lyrics you can get written copies of the lyrics at certain websites to determine if the song is appropriate for your child.

Videos can be more controversial. Many videos are passed around the web because they are shocking. However, remember that entire careers have been made by young kids singing on YouTube, so do not jump to conclusions and outlaw all video downloading. Set rules for what is acceptable and what is not to download so that your child knows what is appropriate.
