Job search sites will allow you post your profile so that employers can be matched with your profile and consider you for employment. These profiles are a great way for employers to get information about you before actually interviewing you. Companies are able to see your resume as well as any examples of work that you have available for them to view.
There are also sites where you can build profiles of work that you have done in the past that you can link to your resume that way if you are applying for a job you can show future employers what you have done in the past. These sites are great for people who work under contract or who work freelance. For example, if you freelance web design or build websites you can link to products that you have created.
Another way to use the internet is to manage your social networking sites with future employers in mind. Many employers admit that they look up a future employee on facebook or myspace before making their ultimate decision. With that in mind, social networking sites are a great way to show what you are interested in and what is important to you.
